About Los Angeles Funeral Society
For over 45 years, the Los Angeles Funeral Society, (LAFS) has existed as a nonprofit, volunteer organization, dedicated to the consumer’s right to choose a meaningful, dignified, affordable funeral.
LAFS was organized in 1957 by members of the Hollywood Consumer Cooperative, following the pattern set by a number of consumer and church groups across the country who were concerned about the lack of consumer awareness and protection related to high-cost funerals.
One part-time, volunteer staff person maintains LAFS’s office in Pasadena, California, and coordinates the activities of other volunteers who do research and outreach. LAFS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors in accordance with California Nonprofit Corporation law.
